Jan Fabre

Sculpture, performance art and installation are all explored and used as Jan Fabre explores the human body, life, and death.  Fabre plays with juxtaposition.

He created a version of the Pietà  using a skull for Mary's face and his body for Christ's body.  The skull faced woman dehumanizes and dramatizes the famous sculpture.  Introduction of a modern man held in her arms applies history to now.

Fabre often uses skulls and his own body to explore relationship.  Placing ram's horns on his head, he explores man,s relationship to animal using monochrome color with red for dramatic emphasis.  Circular lines soften the combination of images.
