Event of a Thread Dec. 2012 - Jan 2013 Park Avenue Armory Installation of fabric, swings, people, music, birds |
"The Event of a Thread" is the latest installation piece by Ann Hamilton. Huge sheets of fabric billow in the wind created by movement of long roped swings as viewers play with the installation. At the end of each day pigeons fly off to freedom as songs send sound across the room. Hamilton is a multi-talented artist who often uses textiles. The fibers in fabric relate to each other in the same way people relate to one anther in a community. Words and sounds relate to each other as music and readings while the viewers swing. She says "The Event of a Thread" is about crossings of people and time. Threads in fabric cross each other. People cross paths. Sounds cross space. Long lines are repeated through out the installation providing added strength to the emotions.
